We've put together a list of our favorite compact laundry units.
Whether you live in Manhattan, where small apartments are the norm, or in a cheap efficiency unit in the middle of Nebraska, finding a laundry unit that fits your space is going to be a hassle. And even if you manage to find one and push it up six flights of hundred-year-old stairs, it’s probably going to look awkward and out-of-place just about anywhere in your apartment.
But fear not; there are solutions out there for unfortunate people like you. For these individuals, we’ve compiled a list of our top-tested compact laundry units.
Blomberg WM 87120 NBL00 ($799-$899)
Winner of our 2012 Best of the Year Award for Top Compact Washer, the WM 87120 NBL00 is one tiny little dynamo. While it’s not exactly cheap, it managed to surpass the scores of washers twice its size. Blomberg (from Turkey, of all places) is a brand you can expect to hear more from in coming years, and this is an impressive first salvo.
Bosch Axxis WAS24460US ($1,100-$1,399)
The Bosch Axxis WAS24460US (Runner-up, 2012 Best Compact Washer) is another compact washer that’s worth checking out, although you should expect to spend considerably more if you decide to snag it rather than the Blomberg.
Asko T753 ($899-$949)
Asko (from Sweden) is another brand making headway in the international marketplace. This machine, the T753, won our 2012 Best of the Year Award for Top Compact Dryer. With a decent price, strong design, and stackable potential, this dryer is a solid option for small apartments.
Bosch Axxis WTV76100US ($786-$899)
The runner-up in the compact category may also be of interest. The Bosch Axxis WTV76100US is the companion dryer to the above-mentioned Bosch washer. It will fit snugly in a closet, kitchen, or bathroom, and obviously it provides a nice, unified aesthetic if you pair it with its sibling.
Maytag MET3800XW ($1,255-$1,399)
The MET3800XW is one of the best compact washer/dryer combos we’ve tested. For less than $1,300, you’ll be able to fit this unit comfortably in a small apartment, and you won’t have to worry about the inferior wash and dry performance that combo laundry units usually offer.
