Electricity Use

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

In a year's worth of a variety of washes, we calculated that the {{product.name}} will use about 51.53 kWh of electricity.

Water Use

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Seventy three gallons. That's how much hot and cold water the {{product.name}} uses on an allergen wash. Other specialty cycles are similarly thirsty: 49 gallons for a bulky wash, 40 gallons for a delicates wash.

The normal wash is, thankfully, the exception to this rule, using only about 12 gallons of water per cycle.

Cost Per Wash

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

If you're running specialty cycles, it'll cost you: 57 cents for an allergen wash, 34 cents for a bulky wash. The normal cycle only costs 7 cents per cycle, however.

Yearly Running Cost

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Running a variety of cycles for a year will cost about $58. Top-loaders tend to be expensive, but that's extremely high for any washer we've ever tested -- more that twice the cost of some front-loaders. If you're debating between this and a similarly priced front-loader, keep in mind that the more efficient washer could save you $100 in four years of ownership.

Washing Cycles

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Otherwise, wash cycles ranged from normal to allergen, each with its own specific purpose. There are no steam or sanitizing cycles on this washer.

Customization

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The {{product.name}}'s cycles can be customized for spin speed, soil level and temperature. They can't be customized to create a quick wash.

Additional Wash Options

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Washes can be custom programmed to add fabric softener, an extra rinse, a prewash or a "deep clean" which involves more agitation and a longer soak cycle.

Detergent Dispenser

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The detergent dispenser is at the rear of the washer, near where the water pours in.

Washer Door

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

A glass door lets you watch your clothes as they get washed. It's lightweight and sturdy, too.

Ease of Use

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

This washer is extremely easy to use, though folks who aren't that tall may find a front-loader easier to lift heavy wet laundry from. We did notice that it is pretty loud during a cycle. When the impeller moves to agitate the clothes, there's a distinct grinding noise that could be heard across our testing lab.

Controls

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

A single knob determines cycles.

Efficiency

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The {{product.name}} costs nearly twice as much to run as a comparably priced front-loading washer, mostly due to how much water its specialty cycles use. If you're planning on using washes other than the normal cycle, consider that four years of ownership may set you back more than $100 over the cost of a front-loader.

Performance

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Regardless of which cycle we chose, the {{product.name}} had no trouble lifting stains. Debris removal was best on the bulky cycle, though it used a lot more water.

Features

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Though a quick wash is absent, the {{product.name}} offers customizable wash cycles and a good complement of specialty washes that will satisfy most consumers. There's no sanitizing wash, but there is a special cycle for those suffering from allergies.
