Ask the Experts: Solid Budget Washing Machine and Dryer?

What are decent washers and dryers for an affordable price?

Recommendations are independently chosen by Reviewed's editors. Purchases made through the links below may earn us and our publishing partners a commission.

Each week, our staff of laundry appliance experts will answer one reader question to help you find the right washer and dryer.

Our question this week comes from Tim of Akron, Ohio, who wrote in via email. He wants to know:

"I just bought a house and I need a washer and dryer for my basement. Space isn't a problem, but I don't want to spend much, and I don't really care if the machines are a little rough on my clothes, or can't get some stains out some of the time. What's good?"

Matt Zahnzinger, RefrigeratorInfo.com Excellent question, Tim. A good place to look for a quick selection of appliances that don't cost a lot and do well would be our Budget Appliance Round-Up. If a low price is substantially more important to you than extra features or ease of use, you might want to check out the GE GTWN4450MWS washer and its counterpart, the GTDP400EMWS dryer. Another even cheaper alternative for a dryer would be the Hotpoint HTDP120EDWW. Like the GE's, it's quite old fashioned in design, but it gets the job done. Check back to see how its washer counterpart does when we publish the review a little later this month.
