LG can now add "world's largest top-load washer" to its list of CES laurels.

The sizable WT7700 was announced during today's press conference at CES, snatching the title of "world's largest" from the Samsung WA56H9000AP, if you're keeping score—and you can bet that both Korean giants are.

The WT7700 has a stated capacity of 5.8 cubic feet, making it large enough to wash a king size comforter, not to mention the rest of the bedding, in a single load. LG has also added some convenience features. The drum's base is placed higher to make unloading clothes easier. A Smart Diagnosis system helps with troubleshooting problems using a smartphone app, and a Smart Adapt function allows you to monitor and control the wash cycles using another smartphone app.

The new washer also works with LG's Home-Chat app, of course. LG has been rolling out smart home functionality in most of the new products announced at CES.

Laying claim to titles like "world's largest" tend to have more marketing value than actual performance benefit, but in this instance LG has done something legitimately impressive. Starting in 2015, the Department of Energy laid out new guidelines for measuring capacity in top-loaders that made capacity appear a little smaller than under the old standard. But the LG WT7700 is so big, those new guidelines just aren't a problem.

With a washer this large, you may be able to cut Laundry Day chores in half with a load that's twice as big. That alone is cause for celebration.
