The Best Washing Machines of 2024

After we spent a week testing this machine, we came to an easy conclusion—with its top-notch performance, responsive controls, spacious drum, and numerous cycles and options, this model rises to the top of the pack. It takes good care of clothes, and delivers them thoroughly dry.

It's a pleasure to use the control panel, and easy to tell how much time the cycle will take. Get ready to do lots of tapping to select options, but you can customize every load to optimize the drying.

That’s not to say they’re overly dry. Crispy clothes are no fun to fold, unpleasant to wear, and destined for an early demise. Working at lower temperatures than most dryers, the EFME627UTT dries gently, potentially prolonging the life of everything in your laundry. So, despite this model's higher price point, it may save you money in small ways.

Design and Features

The exterior, in a dark stainless tone Electrolux calls “Titanium” is nothing short of elegant. (White is available, too, for $100 less.) Either way, the design is so pleasing that you could keep the dryer and its matching washer in an open laundry room, so you and your guests could admire them every day.

The stainless steel drum is spacious, and so brightly lit that you'll never leave a stray sock inside when you unload. As you can see, it's possible to reorient the door so that it opens on the left side.

Open the door, and what you see is just as attractice. LED lights illuminate the capacious stainless steel drum. If you’d prefer the door to open on the other side, the user manual explains how to switch it.

The controls are very clear and easy to operate. The shiny selector is a delight to tap, with a digital display showing the predicted time for each cycle. Soft beeps sound as you work your way through them. The options are so numerous that it may take an extra minute or two to set them, but the upside is you get to personalize every load.

Props to the lint filter—it’s double-sided, so it catches more of the fluffy stuff. For safety, make sure you clean if after every load.

Performance

When you’re in a hurry, pick the 15 Minute Fast Dry cycle. You can grab a wet shirt from the washer, and get it dry in 15 minutes. You can even steam it to smooth out the wrinkles.

Got a load of towels to dry? With the Heavy/Towels cycle, they’re fluffy and ready to hang in the bathroom in 58 minutes.

Surprisingly, the Normal cycle took over 90 minutes to finish. We tested it three times to make sure that was really the case, and unfortunately, it was. Running at about the same temperature as the Delicate cycle, Normal actually takes 10 minutes longer than Delicate to run. No worries, though—when it's all over, the clothes come out 100% dry. We'd advise you to run it when you’re not in a hurry.

What the users say

Owners already love this new model, giving it an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. They're happy to be able to count on dry laundry in any cycle. Many say they’re impressed with the size of the drum and the amount of control this model gives them.

Warranty

Electrolux provides a 1-year warranty on labor, and a 2-year warranty on parts.

The bottom line—buy it

If you can invest in this dryer, you'll almost certainly be happy with it. Its nine cycles and five temperature settings let you customize every load for your family's needs. The “perfect steam” feature gives the clothes a shot of steam to get rid of wrinkles and static, and it might just make ironing a thing of the past.

The EFME627UTT comes from a great lineage, so we expect this model to be as reliable as its predecessors. Yes, it’s pricey, but the excellent drying and sheer number of cycles make it a good value.

Of course, even a great dryer might not have everything. The one thing this one lacks is a separate drying rack for items that shouldn’t tumble. We've seen them on some of the highest of the high-end dryers, and at the price point, we might have expected to see one on this model. Turns out Electrolux does make one available—but as an optional accessory that will cost you an extra hundred dollars.
