The LG DLEX3570W dryer is a hard worker that does a commendable job drying clothes and has room for large loads. It also sanitizes, vanquishes wrinkles, and provides steam with no plumbing required. It offers an Android-based smart app meant to communicate with your dryer, download a custom specialty cycle, and diagnose problems.

After a week of testing the dryer in our laundry labs, we conclude that it would be a solid addition to your laundry room.

The 7.4 cu.-ft. drum has plenty of capacity to dry a good-sized load of laundry.

Design Features

The dryer we tested was white and basic, but not plain. For an extra hundred dollars you can purchase a model in stunning Graphite Steel (DLEX3570V), but if it's going in the basement and it matches your washing machine, classic white could work out fine for you. The sturdy porthole door rocks a modern, comfortable pocket handle. It takes a bit of force to open the door, but it closes in a satisfying way. There's a child lock feature to help ensure the little ones' safety.

The dryer's lint trap is at the front, and it's so easy to pull out for cleaning that it may help you remember to do that before you run every load.

You can use this dryer's rack to steam a shirt, dry your sneakers, or freshen a stuffed animal. It's a great asset to the drying routine. The lint filter is right in front, making it easy to clean.

There are many useful cycles on this dryer, and a turn of the dial selects one. A bright LED light illuminates the choice. Because I have a small family, Small Load became my instant favorite.

The control panel is located on the right front, and it's straightforward, easy to use, and offers more options than you may ever need. As you live with the dryer, you'll probably find ways to use them. If that's not your jam, you can stick with the presets.

Basic can be awesome.

You don't have to call a plumber to get steam from this dryer. Open the tray, fill the container with tap water, and it will produce enough steam for a single cycle. That can work well in a laundry rooms where the dryer isn't close to a water source. The inconvenience is that you have to fill the container every time you want steam, unlike models from Whirlpool and Electrolux.

The little chime at the end of the cycle may become your new favorite sound. (Although our testers can probably hear it in their sleep by now.) Old dryers made an obnoxious buzz when they finished. This one plays a happy tune.

Performance

We observed great drying performance in our tests of this model, with every item getting 100% dry on the Cotton/Normal cycle. The Speed Dry cycle, which only clocked in at 25 minutes long, did a less impressive drying job; we recommend only using this cycles for very small loads.

Since steaming is a good way to do a quick refresh, we tested the effectiveness of this dryer's steam to remove a foul odor (cigarette smoke) from a plush toy. After a 20 minute SteamFresh cycle using the dry rack and a dryer sheet in the drum, the stink was gone and the toy emerged unharmed.

You can plan to run your kids' stuffed animals through the SteamFresh cycle for a fast refresh on day one. You might even use the steam feature to save yourself some money on dry cleaning.

The LG-DLEX3570 doesn't need a plumber to set it up for steam. Open this tray to reveal a container for water. Fill it and run a single steam cycle.

Our single complaint with this model—and it's not a show-stopper—is with the display timer. It showed the right time for Speed Dry (25 minutes) and Bulky/Large (55 minutes), but was significantly off for the Cotton/Normal cycle, showing a time of 41 minutes for a cycle that really took just over an hour to run. The Delicates cycle took almost twice as long as the timer showed—it told us the load would be done in 28 minutes, but it wasn't ready for 52 minutes.

If you always start it and walk away, this might not bother you, but if knowing exactly when the load will finish is important, this issue could cause some inconvenience.

What owners say

Almost everyone who owns this dryer absolutely loves it. They're pleased its basic design, ease of use, generous capacity, and steam features. One consistent complaint: the app does not work well, and iPhone users feel the most frustrated and left out. We wonder why major appliance makers can't engineer apps that actually do what they're supposed to, or avoid them until they can.

The bottom line

Count us among the many fans of the LG DLEX3570W. It's well designed, gets the laundry very dry, and makes a pretty pair with the LG WM3770HWA washer. The cycle timer issue is mostly a small annoyance. You have to decide whether you could live with it.

Just to give you some perspective, we also love the budget friendly Electrolux EFME417SIW dryer, which has a plumbed water connection. That dryer is one more example of how basic can be truly awesome.
