We've reviewed a dozen Maytag top loaders, and the 4.8-cu.-ft. Bravos XL MVWB755DW (MSRP $849) combines some the best tech in the entire lineup, including PowerWash and the ability to add steam to select cycles. The control panel's layout is old-school, designed for consumers that already know how to do laundry. But if that's not you, there are plenty of other, more simplified machines available.

The 755 also focuses on long-lasting design. The detergent dispenser, which sits on metal rails instead of flimsy plastic, is a great example. Apart from the lid, this dispenser is the moving part handled most often, so the metal is a welcome upgrade. Maytag also gave the 755 a solid metal lid. Unlike glass lids on pricier models, this opaque metal lid doesn't collect fingerprints and feels nice and hefty.

What's Unique?

The Maytag MVWB755DW is the perfect size for a family of four that does laundry once a week. And while the all-white aesthetics are rather plain, we love practical add-ons like soft-close hinges.

While the 755 isn't the top of the Bravos XL lineup, Maytag is still bringing its A-game here. Stain removal is better than expected at this price, and steam-enhanced cycles are rare for sub-$1,000 washers. In fact, the 755 does a lot of things right for an entry-level model. Thanks to our lab's photospectrometer, we know this Maytag's PowerWash is in the top 25% of all wash cycles. Even without an internal water heater, this cycle should obliterate cocoa and blood stains.
